The UK has been hit by yet another lockdown which is the third lockdown in less than 12 months, as COVID cases continue to rise following the discovery of a new virus variant. One of angler’s big questions after hearing this new lockdown news, was would fishing still be allowed?
With the nation in full lockdown there is little people can leave their homes for except for essential shopping and exercise. However for the anglers that enjoy fishing it is great news as the government is allowing this as a form of exercise, after a recent confirmation:
As reported by the Angling Trust:
The DCMS Sports Team confirmed the following:
“fishing is allowed as exercise so long as participants adhere to the rules on staying local, gathering limits, social distancing and limiting the time spent outdoors”
This has also been confirmed by DEFRA:
“Cabinet Office have now officially confirmed that angling / fishing (incl. sea fishing off private boats, water sports) can be considered exercise and are hence permitted.”
